Hot Topic

The stark image of the remains of a forest fire has always captured my imagination. Only the strongest of charred trunks are still standing —- branches, foliage and the forest’s undercover are gone, as well as any wildlife. This image is a reminder not only of the human destruction of our forests but of the effects of accelerating climate change. Today uncontrollable wildfires destroy millions of acres of forests every year around the world.

The woodcut technique used in creating this print, although not “hot type,” is perfect for producing a simple, direct image capturing the seriousness of this “hot topic.”
